National Investigation Agency or NIA is a Central Counter-Terrorism Law Enforcement Agency, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, established in 2009, headquartered in New Delhi.

The central agency is created through the enactment of the National Investigation Agency Act 2008 by the Parliament of India on 31 December 2008,

NIA is created after by 2008 Mumbai attacks, the agency main function is to probe terror attacks in any part of the country, covering offenses, including a challenge to the country's sovereignty and integrity.

The agency has Special NIA Courts to handle terror-related cases, officers for NIA is pooled from the Indian Revenue Service, Indian Police Service, state police, Income Tax as well as officers from the Central Armed Police Forces.

Investigation Agency is headed by Director General, who is a senior IPS Officer. It receives annual budget of 16 million dollars and has a workforce base of over 600.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) is a central agency, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India.

In a latest job notification, NIA announces job vacancies for various staff posts on a deputation basis.
